The Titans’ cornerback slammed the Jaguars after the team’s postseason aspirations were dashed.
The Tennessee Titans will not make the playoffs this year, but they were able to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars as well.
Tennessee destroyed Jacksonville’s playoff aspirations with a 28-20 victory in their Week 18 matchup. With a win over the 5-11 Titans, the Jags would have advanced to the postseason at 9-7. However, the loss dropped Jacksonville to 9-8, allowing the 10-7 Pittsburgh Steelers to capture the AFC’s last playoff spot.
Titans cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting, who contributed wonderfully with a second-quarter interception of Trevor Lawrence, reveled in the opportunity to play spoiler in the locker room following the game.
“Would you like to know the truth?” “We definitely had extra motivation,” he remarked, according to Titans beat writer Sam Phalen. “They have to meet me in Cancun.” It’s retaliation.”
The Titans and Jaguars are arch rivals in the AFC South division. The latter had also defeated the former in the previous two encounters (including a 34-14 thrashing in Week 11), therefore Murphy-Bunting was most likely referring to payback.
Murphy-Bunting, a former second-round pick, already has a Super Bowl ring from his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As a result, he is content this season to just send the Jaguars on vacation (giving his head coach some breathing room in the process).
