BREAKING: Cleveland Browns Star Defender Suffers Knee Injury at Practice;

The Cleveland Browns’ secondary could be shorthanded in Saturday’s game against the Houston Texans. According to various sources, top cornerback Denzel Ward injured his knee during Thursday’s practice, threatening his availability for this weekend’s playoff game.

Nickelback Greg Newsome addressed about the injury after practice, stating the squad will be prepared if Ward is unable to play. Mike Ford, a backup cornerback who mostly plays special teams, missed the regular-season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals. His situation warrants monitoring.

Ward appeared in 13 games this season and recorded 34 tackles, 11 passes defensed, and two interceptions. Ward earned his third Pro Bowl selection this season. His biggest game came against the Indianapolis Colts in late October, when he intercepted quarterback Gardner Minshew II early in the third quarter, leading to a 39-38 victory. The Ohio State product tallied four tackles. Ward was taken fourth overall in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He has 273 tackles, 15 interceptions, and four defensive touchdowns in his three Pro Bowl appearances.

Martin Emerson Jr. and Greg Newsome II are the Cleveland Browns’ other starting cornerbacks, opposite Ward. Emerson has four interceptions this season, while Newsome has 49 tackles and one pick-six. According to Ourlads, the Browns have Cameron Mitchell, Mike Ford, and Kahlef Hailassie listed as backup corners.

Mike Ford missed last weekend’s game against the Bills and has only started one game this season. He has 28 tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery this season. Mitchell, a fifth-round pick in last year’s draft, has 18 tackles and two passes defended for 2023. He attended Northwestern University and played basketball there. Meanwhile, fellow rookie Kahlef Hailassie made his first career start last weekend. He recorded two tackles and one pass defense.
