Blackburn seek Indian government approval as they ready big cash bid for Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell

Leeds United

According to Alan Nixon, Blackburn Rovers could make a substantial bid for Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell after its owners requested the Indian government for permission to fund the team.

This follows a report from Nixon [Patreon] on 14 January that Blackburn is ready to increase their interest in Cresswell, with a large cash bid planned.

Leeds apparently value Cresswell at under £4 million, but Nixon went on to say that Blackburn might offer a cheaper price with add-ons in the transaction, implying that they could bid half of his asking price and expect to close the deal.

With Blackburn now attempting to acquire further funding with the authorization of the Indian government, it might be a step forward in their efforts to match Leeds’ valuation for their academy product.

Leeds United: Charlie Cresswell future - why 'writing seems to be on the wall' - BBC Sport

Cresswell has made just four Championship appearances under Daniel Farke this season, with only one coming from the start, as he has frequently been left out of matchday squads due to competition in his position.

This has raised suspicion over his future, making it more probable that the defender will try to leave Elland Road in the January transfer window, despite signing a new contract in the summer.

With Blackburn hoping to make a late push for the playoffs, they might become direct promotion rivals to Leeds, making the deal more difficult to complete because Leeds will be unwilling to bolster a direct competitor.

However, if they stick to their price tag for Cresswell, they may not see him depart at all, so either they get the money they want for boosting a possible rival club, or they don’t and can wait until the summer to finalize a transaction.
