Leeds United competing with Sheffield United and AC Milan for English defender

Leeds United could be looking for a new centre-back due to the unclear futures of Pascal Struijk and club captain Liam Cooper. The former has shown interest in French heavyweights PSG, while the latter is expected to leave at the end of the season.

With this in mind, the January transfer window provides Daniel Farke’s team with an excellent opportunity to rectify issue. According to Calcio Mercato, Everton’s Godfrey is one of the players on their radar.

The 26-year-old is surplus to requirements at Goodison Park. According to the source, he has been presented to teams and may be available on a reduced fee, attracting interest from Leeds United, among others. They face competition from Sheffield United in the Premier League and AC Milan in Italy.

Leeds United may well play in the Premier League next season, but there is no certainty. Similarly, Sheffield United could be demoted to the Championship, therefore Godfrey will need to examine his choices to ensure he can continue to play at the top level.

If Godfrey wants to play at the highest level, a move to AC Milan may be the best option. The only drawback is that playing time may be limited compared to the regular minutes he is expected to receive if he stays in England and joins Leeds United or Sheffield United.

If the Whites did get their man, it would be a fantastic coup. Godfrey has extensive experience, having played in the Championship and Premier League and earning two caps for England. This experience could be critical in assisting them in achieving their aim of being promoted back to the top division at the first opportunity.
