My Two Cents: For What Titans Need Right Now, Brian Callahan Checks Every Box

Brian Callahan has worked with some of the NFL’s top quarterbacks, most recently helping Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow become a star. He is the future head coach of the Tennessee Titans, and his first task will be to transform Will Levis into the same type of star. This is an excellent hire for the Titans.

So, when the Tennessee Titans were looking for a new coach this month, it was critical to find someone who could bring out the best in rookie quarterback Will Levis. For the Titans to regain relevance — and they are absolutely irrelevant in NFL circles right now — Levis must become a terrific quarterback.

So, when the Tennessee Titans were seeking for a new coach this month, they needed someone who could bring out the best in rookie quarterback Will Levis. Levis must become a fantastic quarterback if the Titans are to regain prominence – and they are now completely ignored in NFL circles.

Late Monday night, it was announced that Callahan, the son of renowned college and professional coach Bill Callahan, will be hired to replace Mike Vrabel in Nashville following a day of in-person interviews with Titans executives. The formal word should arrive later on Tuesday.

When Callahan and Zac Taylor came in Cincinnati five years ago, the Bengals looked nearly identical to the Tennessee Titans today. That is not a complement. They needed to re-set their quarterback, which they accomplished with Joe Burrow. They had the worst offensive line in sport (now shared by the Titans and the New York Giants), but they found a way to fix it while still moving the ball in transition.

Once completed, this Bengals combo has won ever since, including a Super Bowl run that fell just a few seconds shy of their first global championship. Callahan played a significant role in that. And who says this? Only the Bengals’ head coach, Zac Taylor, praises Callahan for everything the Bengals have accomplished together in their five-year run.
