Cardiff City set to re-sign Wolves' Ryan Giles » The72 - Football League News

Leeds United are about to miss out on Luton Town’s Ryan Giles, with Hull City apparently finishing the remaining elements in a deal worth up to £5 million.

Leeds were reportedly interested in signing the 23-year-old, but it appears that Giles will join the Tigers. According to Adam Pope of the BBC, the Luton left-back was a target for Leeds earlier this month, but interest has since intensified.

That’s because he was also mentioned by Phil Hay in an article for The Athletic, and Football Insider later claimed that the Whites were looking into Giles’ availability on a prospective loan for the rest of the season.

Despite Daniel Farke’s involvement, Hull have been dubbed the race’s front-runners and are expected to reach an agreement shortly. According to Sky Sports writer Rob Dorsett, the two teams are close to reaching an agreement on the £5 million contract, however the exact structure of the agreement is unknown at this time.

The loan market may be a wise approach to close deals late in the window, and there is normally a flurry of them across the Championship, with Premier League managers making players available who require regular action throughout the season.

According to Football League World sources, part of Leeds’ strategy for the window has been to wait for many top-flight clubs to decide on their fringe players, with some likely to be retained for squad depth and others surplus to requirements but still young enough to require developmental game time somewhere else.

The second division is an excellent venue for many young players to gain experience, and many of the Premier League’s greatest young players find the transition to be simple.
