James Maddison back for Tottenham as Ange Postecoglou issues update for Man City fixture

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou believes that James Maddison’s comeback for their FA Cup encounter against Manchester City will be beneficial. The midfielder has been out of action since early November owing to an injury.

Spurs host Pep Guardiola’s team in north London on Friday, looking to maintain their recent success. They have only lost once in their past seven games and are only three points behind Aston Villa in the league.

Despite Maddison’s absence, Tottenham have remained competitive with their top-four rivals. However, Postecoglou is eager to make a statement in the cup competition following his early exit from the Carabao Cup earlier this season.

Maddison was rested for that game and came on late to assist with the penalty shootout. Despite his few appearances, he managed to score two goals and four assists before to his injury.

The 27-year-old is now ready to join the group as Tottenham progressively returns its best players to the pitch.

“Team news, from the last game everyone is ok,” Postecoglou revealed at Hotspur Way on Thursday. “[Dejan Kulusevski] Deki has recovered.” “The boys had four days off last week.”

“Madders has been training with us and completed a full training week. Ben [Davies] and Dane Scarlett have just joined the group. Gio [Lo Celso], Manor [Solomon], and Alejo [Veliz] are the only ones who remain away from it.”

Spurs had managed a dramatic 3-3 draw versus City in a league meeting last December. Postecoglou will be eager to improve his performance this time, avoiding a replay and advancing to the fifth round of the cup.

Maddison’s return is an even larger benefit for Tottenham, especially as Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma are also gone for the Africa Cup of Nations.
