Journalist reveals “stumbling block” which could stop Leeds United from signing Everton defender

Leeds United have expressed interest in signing Everton defender Ben Godfrey, with talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook providing an update.

Crook believes Leeds will have competition from Sheffield United and foreign clubs for Godfrey’s signing.

Given Ben Godfrey’s limited playing time at Goodison Park this season, the Everton defender could leave before the transfer window closes.

Daniel Farke, now in charge of Leeds United, may be looking for a new centre-back, particularly one who can play numerous positions. Given Leeds’ desire to return to the Premier League at the first try, signings like Godfrey could be critical to their success.

According to TEAMtalk, Leeds United are one of the clubs interested in Ben Godfrey. However, the report suggests that Godfrey may choose to move abroad, with AC Milan interested in the defender. Furthermore, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Genoa is also interested in Godfrey, together with 777 Partners, who have agreed to take over at Goodison Park, which also owns Genoa.

While a departure appears certain, especially given Everton’s financial needs, Leeds may face obstacles in the hunt for Godfrey’s signature due to competition from top-tier sides.

According to Crook, Leeds United, Sheffield United, and international clubs are interested in signing Ben Godfrey this month. Conversations about a possible transfer are now underway, but Everton would prefer to sell Godfrey rather than loan him, especially with only 18 months remaining on his contract.

He remarked on GIVEMESPORT: “The stumbling block there is that he has 18 months left on his contract.” So I believe Everton would prefer to sell him, and if they loan him out, he will be required to sign a new contract to protect his value.
