Manuel Benson transfer latest amid Hull City, Leeds United and Southampton interest

Hull City’s hopes of signing Burnley winger Manuel Benson are diminishing as other Championship clubs show ongoing interest.

City had a verbal agreement with Burnley at the start of the month to bring in the Belgian winger on loan until the end of the season, with the final decision up to the player, who was eager to explore his alternatives as the month progressed.

Benson has piqued the curiosity of Liam Rosenior, Southampton, and Leeds United, with Ipswich Town and Birmingham City also showing interest in the 26-year-old. According to reports in Belgium, the Tigers’ Yorkshire rivals are ahead of the queue, despite the fact that Wilfried Gnonto is expected to sign a new contract at Elland Road following early speculations that the Italian international would be leaving and Benson coming in as a replacement.

Benson, who appeared in three of Burnley’s first five Premier League games, has only played 12 minutes of top-flight action since, but he was on the bench in the draw at home to Luton Town last time out and has been told by Vincent Kompany that he can leave Turf Moor in search of regular football.

While City’s proposal is still on the table, it is known that the club has moved on to other targets and anticipates activity in the last days before the window closes at 11 p.m. on Thursday next week. Rosenior has also looked into Benson’s Clarets Anass Zaroury, but the transaction appears to be difficult at the time.
