Daniel Farke confirms 20-year-old will return to Leeds United’s squad today

Farke announced that both Archie Gray and Dan James will be absent after suffering injuries in midweek’s triumph over Norwich City, though neither is expected to lose much time. Pascal Struijk is also out.

Gray could return to full training as soon as next week after limping off in extra time on Wednesday, while James is expected to return for Leeds’ next home league fixture against Rotherham.

However, there is some positive news ahead of today’s FA Cup meeting, as Wilfried Gnonto is back in contention after missing the previous two games due to a hip flexor injury.

In his pre-match press conference yesterday afternoon, Farke announced that Gnonto has been back in full training for a few days and will return to the squad.

Willy is back in training. Good. I trained quite hard yesterday. I also trained hard on Wednesday. Available for this game.

Gnonto might come right into the starting XI today as Farke tries to rotate his side considerably following a demanding week of league play that saw back-to-back home triumphs.

With James out and Crysencio Summerville maybe in line for a rest, Gnonto and Jaidon Anthony could make their first starts since the previous round of the competition.

This will be Gnonto’s first appearance for Leeds since the announcement of his impending contract extension at Elland Road, which should improve his confidence.

Gnonto has yet to reach his best form this season, but there is no better moment to push a bid for a regular berth with James sidelined and certain to miss the next two games.
