Confirmed: Leeds United could miss out on £17m player sale without promotion – View

Marc Roca, a Leeds United midfielder, has stated that his Real Betis loan contract has the potential to be extended till next season if the Whites do not win promotion this season.

This season, Leeds are fighting for promotion from the Championship, hoping to return to the Premier League at the earliest opportunity.

A handful of players who were not good enough last season as Leeds finished 19th and went out on loan throughout Europe will not help them regain their status in 23/24.

Marc Roca returned to La Liga in the summer with Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis, where he has already made an impression in midfield and at centre-back.

Speaking to El Desmarque about his time at Betis, he revealed how much he enjoys life at his present club, as well as admitting that the Spanish side can extend his loan to 24/25 if Leeds are not promoted under Daniel Farke this season.

This year, there is a clause that allows me to go out on loan if Leeds does not make it to the Premier League. However, it depends on the team’s performance, which is beyond my control. I wish them all the best and am grateful to them for being my home.

Failure to achieve promotion has far-reaching consequences for Leeds both on and off the ground, with finances taking a significant hit.

However, the loaned-out players might help the club not just balance the books, but also finance another potentially ambitious summer.

The same Spanish site that Roca spoke with stated earlier in January that the 27-year-old is garnering interest from a number of La Liga teams, which would result in a €20 million (£17.2 million) departure if Leeds get promoted.

If that does not happen, the club will lose a significant amount of money that could be used to construct the squad more wisely when they return to the Premier League.

Joining Leeds for £10 million in 2022 would be a tremendous boost to the Profit and Sustainability margins that every team entering the Premier League will want to adhere to after recent developments with Everton and Nottingham Forest.
