Manchester United rejection leads to Bournemouth move

According to the Scottish Sun, the arrangement is for a “minimum £350,000” with several add-ons, including first-team advancement and international caps, potentially pushing the total to over £1 million. The deal reportedly includes “a cut of any future sell-on”.

According to the Scottish tabloid newspaper, “McKenna has turned down Manchester United to agree a deal with Bournemouth.”

AFC Bournemouth has had remarkable recent success in signing young goalkeepers that have progressed to full international status.
The Cherries have previously signed Mark Travers and Aaron Ramsdale, who went on to represent the Republic of Ireland and England, respectively.
Travers joined AFC Bournemouth at the age of 17 in 2016 and made his Premier League debut for the Cherries in 2019, making him the thirteenth youngest goalkeeper in Premier League history.

Aaron Ramsdale, 18, signed from Sheffield United in January 2017.
Ramsdale went on to become a regular first-choice goalkeeper in the Premier League, playing for not just the Cherries before to their relegation, but also Sheffield United and Arsenal.

He has also made four appearances for England, and he was part of Gareth Southgate’s selections for the (postponed) Euro 2020 and World Cup 2022.
Both will have worked for AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper coach Neil Moss, who returned to the club in December 2022 after an 18-month absence that included a stint with the Football Association as a national goalkeeper coach.
McKenna is already a Scotland Under-19 international, and his transfer to the south coast is likely motivated by the prospect of earning a full international cap in the near future.

to our goalkeeping coach, Glen Johnson, who has worked effectively with Callan and helped him realize some of his potential. I am excited to watch him fulfill his full potential at Bournemouth, and I know it will be a wonderful day for Queen’s Park when he wears one of their tops for the first time in their first team.”

Callum Davidson, Head Coach of Queen’s Park FC, stated on their official website.
“I’ve only been at the club for a short time, but in training, I could see Callan’s quality and promise. Having gained first-team experience as a goalkeeper at the age of sixteen will have benefited him, and he is the perfect illustration of what is possible at Queen’s Park in terms of being a young player, learning the game, and leveraging the club’s platform to draw interest from major teams.”A lot of credit must go.
