2026 Winter Olympics: Wild’s Bill Guerin named general manager of United States Olympic team

Bill Guerin, general manager of the Minnesota Wild, has been selected general manager of the United States teams competing in the 2026 Olympics and the NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off competition in 2025, according to a USA Hockey release.

“It’s an honour beyond belief to be asked to do this, and I couldn’t say yes quickly enough,” Guerin said in a statement. “I’ve been fortunate to have many great days in hockey and this is among the very best.”

Guerin was the United States general manager three years ago, but he was forced to step down after the NHL announced that its players would not partake in the 2022 Olympics because to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The NHL confirmed last week that the 2025 All-Star Game will be replaced by a four-nation round-robin event. The event would include teams from the United States, Canada, Finland, and Sweden. The league also agreed to participate in the next two Olympic Games, beginning with the 2026 Games in Milan-Cortina.

NHL players have not competed in the last two Olympics.

Guerin, 53, was a member of the US team that won a silver medal in the 2022 Olympics in Salt Lake City. He also played 18 NHL seasons for eight different clubs and is currently in his fifth season as the Wild’s general manager.
