David Moyes demands West Ham fans give Declan Rice a good reception on return with Arsenal but makes admission.
David Moyes has asked that West Ham fans greet Declan Rice warmly on his return to Arsenal, but he has made an admission.
It’s a crucial game for West Ham’s top-six prospects and Arsenal’s title chances.
However, it is also Part 3 of the Declan Rice Derby.
Since their previous captain left for north London, the Hammers have performed admirably against the Gunners.
David Moyes’ side defeated Arsenal 3-1 in the league cup in November, then a month later won 2-0 at the Emirates in the Premier League.
Much of the focus, particularly during the cup game at the London Stadium, was on Rice’s reception from Hammers fans.
No doubt, the Rice reception police will be out in force in east London this weekend.
Moyes has requested that West Ham fans greet Rice warmly when he returns to Arsenal, but he admits something.
Before the game, Moyes informed fans that their former captain deserves nothing but a happy welcome.
However, he also remarked that feeling may be thrown out the window with a raucous crowd of West Ham fans eager to watch their team defeat a London rival.
He was an excellent player for us, and we all miss him. He’s a great boy and a top professional, and we surely miss him, so I’m hoping he’ll be welcomed.
“But certainly, I have supporters who want us to win. And a manager who wishes Declan would not play well – or at all.”
Some West Ham fans were and continue to be upset with their former captain for attempting to join Arsenal. And the move has sparked a rivalry between two clubs that have never really had one. The primary reason for this was a shared disdain of another north London side.
