REST IN PEACE.
Leeds United were sorry to learn of the death of former forward Ian Lawson at the age of 84.
Lawson began his career with Burnley before joining the Whites in 1962 for a cost of £20,000, signed by Don Revie as Leeds struggled at the bottom of the second division table.
He made history with the club in 1963/64, when he helped the team win the Second Division title for only the second time in its history.
Lawson played a significant role in the championship-winning campaign, scoring 11 goals in 24 league games as the Whites were promoted back to the First Division, laying the groundwork for what would become the club’s most successful era.
He departed to join Crystal Palace in 1965 and then worked at Port Vale and Barnsley.
During his stint at Elland Road, he appeared in 51 games across all competitions and scored 21 goals.
Everyone’s sympathies are with Ian’s family and friends, including his wife Maureen, daughter Sharon, and son Michael.
