Detroit Lions news: Losing an assistant coach, Jared Goff, Dan Campbell, Graham Glasgow
The Detroit Lions, of course, came close to reaching Super Bowl LVIII, losing barely to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game. But the future seems bright, with practically the entire coaching staff returning (though, strangely, not without attempts to smear one assistant for staying), and the Lions have leaned into their “unfinished business”.
The NFL world of course descended on Las Vegas for Sunday’s big game. With that in mind, here are some Lions’ news nuggets for your Super Bowl Sunday.
This revelation came on Saturday, just as it appeared like the Lions will return next season with their entire coaching staff intact, as passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand was not hired to fill the remaining offensive coordinator opening.
Duker joined the Lions on Dan Campbell’s initial staff in 2021 as a defensive assistant. He was elevated to safeties coach in 2022 and took over the entire secondary when Aubrey Pleasant was fired midseason. He was named defensive backs coach prior to this season.
With Duker’s departure, the hire of Deshea Townsend this week makes more sense, and it may not signify as much for the situation of cornerbacks’ coach Dre’ Bly as it first appeared.
