David Moyes ‘will want’ Kalvin Phillips to stay at West Ham.

West Ham United could attempt to turn Kalvin Phillips’ loan move to the London Stadium into a permanent agreement when the transfer window reopens.
Despite a ‘crisis start’ to his London Stadium career, West Ham United sensation Kalvin Phillips is on track to convert his loan move from Manchester City into a permanent agreement, according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who explains why manager David Moyes’ future will be vital in negotiations. The pressure has increased on the Scottish manager after the Hammers were sentenced to their joint-heaviest loss of all time, thanks to Premier League title-chasers Arsenal clinching a 6-0 victory in east London last weekend, extending the hosts’ winless streak.

West Ham’s humiliation came despite displaying plenty of ambition during the summer, with Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, Konstantinos Mavropanos, and Mohammed Kudus joining in response to Declan Rice’s £105 million departure – but Phillips proved to be the only acquisition before the winter window closed on February 1.
According to the Telegraph, Phillips argued that his temporary move to West Ham allowed him to reignite the fire in his belly, and Moyes made him feel desired as he sought a new challenge to improve his prospects of making England’s Euro 2024 squad.

According to the article, the defensive midfielder’s confidence was shattered after Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola characterized him as overweight and frequently disregarded him after joining from childhood club Leeds United for £45 million in July 2022.

Phillips, who had been on the periphery for the majority of the season at the Etihad Stadium, joined West Ham on loan last month in a deal that did not include a buy option, but his debut in a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth did not go as planned, and he was dropped to the bench for recent defeats against Manchester United and Arsenal.
