Allen Park — The Washington Commanders did not hire Ben Johnson or Aaron Glenn as their new head coach. However, they will not abandon the Detroit Lions.

Lance Newmark was named Washington’s new assistant general manager Wednesday afternoon. Newmark has worked with Detroit’s player personnel department since 1998. He has served as the team’s senior director of player personnel for the past two seasons. Prior to that, he was the Lions’ director of player personnel for five seasons, working his way up through the organization over a quarter century.
