Willian: ‘Fulham have huge potential to win trophies’

Willian is bullish, telling the Daily Telegraph that Fulham have ‘great potential to be one of the finest clubs in the Premier League, to start winning trophies’.

The evergreen Brazilian winger reveals he is ‘grateful’ that the Whites ‘opened the door’ for him to return to English football after his comeback to his boyhood club Corinthians turned sour. He claims that head coach Marco Silva has been critical to his comeback at Craven Cottage:

“I wanted to join Fulham because it’s a fantastic club in London, but the primary reason was Marco. We had a terrific talk, and in my opinion, he’s an excellent manager. I appreciate working with him a lot. He always strives to understand the players and communicate with you. In football, the human element is always crucial, and he’s a wonderful person.
This club has a history of ups and downs. But I believe it has enormous potential to become one of the top clubs in the Premier League, to win trophies, and to compete for something worthwhile. That is within the capabilities of this club. It’s London, a fantastic stadium, and friendly people in the club. It’s a great location to be. Look, they opened the door for me, and I’ll always be grateful.”
The 35-year-old, who has 10 goals and eight assists in 56 Fulham games, is determined about staying at Craven Cottage.

“Yes, but I’m not sure if they want me to stay!” We will decide at the end of the season. Now I simply want to focus on playing well, conditioning well, and giving my all to the club. Then we’ll examine what we can do and what we intend to do. Everyone says to me, “How is it possible that you are 35?” You cannot be! That’s fantastic to hear.
