Nottingham Forest make key off-field appointment ahead of West Ham clash.

Nottingham Forest have appointed former official Mark Clattenburg to the role of referee analyst for the club.

Since their promotion to the Premier League, Liverpool has faced a number of contentious rulings. Last Saturday, they believed they should have had a penalty in their 3-2 loss to Newcastle United while the score was still 2-2.

Clattenburg, who was assigned to the post on an as-needed consulting basis, is expected to attend Forest’s crucial match against West Ham United at the City Ground. Tony Scholes, the Premier League’s chief football officer, and owner Evangelos Marinakis are also in attendance.

Earlier this week, Clattenburg stated that the Reds should have got a penalty kick against the Magpies. Forest claimed Taiwo Awoniyi was killed by Martin Dubravka, but Anthony Taylor rejected the appeals. VAR checked, however the referee was not summoned to his monitor.

Clattenburg, writing for the Daily Mail, linked the event to a penalty granted by Taylor to Liverpool in a home encounter against Newcastle last month. On that instance, the referee determined that Diogo Jota was tripped by Dubravka and pointed to the spot.
“Soft though it was, the decision was awarded in real time,” Clattenburg remarked about the penalty at Anfield. “Awoniyi had a more serious case than Jota, as Dubravka’s lifted right arm made it impossible for him to stay on his feet, but Forest received nothing.

“VAR Tony Harrington cannot escape guilt because he did not give his colleague the opportunity to fix his blunder. It’s understandable that Forest fans are wondering why one regulation applies to the Premier League’s greatest clubs but not to them.
