There was already a lot of discussion about where former New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be next season. Regardless matter which franchise gives Garoppolo his next opportunity, he will not be in uniform for the first two weeks of the NFL season. The Las Vegas Raiders quarterback has been suspended for two games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance rules, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on January 16th. Las Vegas hopes to release Garoppolo before his roster bonus begins next month.
Garoppolo was originally drafted in the second round by the New England Patriots in 2014. He was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in 2017. Although he led the 49ers to the Super Bowl, his time with the team was marred by injuries, prompting his resignation last summer. Garoppolo then signed a three-year contract with the Raiders, but his stint in Las Vegas was fraught with issues. His new team will be his fourth since getting drafted in 2014.
Garoppolo started only six games in 2023 before being benched in favor of youngster Aidan O’Connell. He threw nine interceptions to seven touchdown passes. The Raiders have not named O’Connell as the starter for this season and have the 13th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
