Newcastle United star could undergo surgery after being ruled out of 10 matches

According to sources, Steve Bruce is poised to become South Korea’s next manager.

The former Newcastle United manager has been out of work since being fired by West Bromwich Albion 18 months ago. His hiring at the Baggies in February 2022 came as a surprise, as the 63-year-old had previously stated that the Toon gig would be his last.

Following South Korea’s exit from the Asia Cup, Bruce could be in line to take over. The Taegeuk Warriors, led by Tottenham Hotspur forward Heung-min Son, were pre-tournament favourites but fell in the semi-finals against Jordan.
That 2-0 defeat ultimately cost Jurgen Klinsmann his job, and according to The Sun, Bruce is waiting in the wings to take over. In recent months, the former Newcastle player has considered returning to the dugout.

In November, Bruce put his name in the running for the vacant Republic of Ireland role. He said: “I’m told I’m in the running for the Ireland position. It’s a job that would definitely interest me.

“As I have stated, I’ve taken some time off and am eager to return to the game. Something like that would be suitable for me.”
