Lions announce additions of Terrell Williams, Deshea Townsend to coaching staff.
On Wednesday, the Lions confirmed a pair of previously reported appointments to their coaching staff.
Terrell Williams will serve as defensive run game coordinator and defensive line coach, while Deshea Townsend will be the passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach. They also revealed that Jim O’Neil will be a defensive assistant.
Williams was the Titans’ defensive line coach for the previous six seasons, and he was their associate head coach last year. He has also served as a defensive line coach for the Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders.
For the past two years, Townsend has served as the Jaguars’ passing game coordinator and cornerback coach. Since retiring from football after 13 seasons, he has worked for the Bears, Giants, Titans, and Cardinals.
O’Neil was the defensive coordinator at Northwestern in 2021 and 2022. His most recent NFL experience came with the Raiders from 2018-2020.
It remains to be seen how the Rams will manage the contract situation of another tackle, Joe Noteboom.
At the start of today’s press conference to present the Patriots’ coaching staff to media, Mayo made it obvious that he appreciated what reporters do.
“I appreciate, first of all, you guys coming down,” Mayo told the assembled reporters at the start of the news conference.
Mayo then stated that his coaching team would be accessible to speak with reporters and that his staff understands how vital it is to maintain a positive relationship with the beat writers that visit the facility on a daily basis.
