David Moyes confirms West Ham United have offered him a new contract.

The 60-year-old’s future at the London Stadium has long been a source of speculation, with his current contract set to expire at the conclusion of this season.

Moyes marked four years in command of West Ham with a 2-0 win away to Arsenal at the end of December, but the Scotsman has since been under heavy pressure due to the club’s poor form.

Indeed, the Hammers have lost their first eight games in 2024 across all competitions, and they have lost their previous three Premier League games by a combined score of 11-0.

West Ham were in and around the top six at the end of 2023, with a top-four finish not out of reach, but they have since dropped to ninth place in the table, just two points behind the European positions.

According to reports earlier this month, West Ham paused contract talks with Moyes following the club’s 6-0 home defeat to Arsenal, casting doubt on his future at the club beyond the current season.

However, Moyes has now acknowledged that he has received a contract offer from the Hammers management, but the Scotsman has decided to postpone the extension.

Speaking during a press conference on Friday ahead of West Ham’s home game against Brentford on Monday, Moyes stated: “I’ve had extremely positive chats with the owners, David Sullivan and Karren Brady.

“There is a contract for me, and I get to decide whether I want to wait until the end of the season.

I want to make sure everything is in order and, most importantly, that we focus on this season.

“I’ve really enjoyed by four years here and one way or another I will make sure I see my contract out.”

“There are numerous reasons (for the delay),” Moyes explained. “I have to make sure it’s the right thing for the club, but also for myself and my family.

“I’ve spoken with the board, and I’ve gotten along really well with them. As I’ve said, I’ve had a fantastic four years. We’ll work it out, but I’m content to wait.”

Moyes led West Ham to Europa Conference League glory last season, defeating Fiorentina 2-1 in the final in June to win the club’s first European title in 58 years.

He also led the Hammers to the Europa League semi-finals and back-to-back top-seven finishes in the Premier League in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Moyes oversaw 245 games in all competitions during his two tenure with West Ham, winning 107, drawing 50, and losing 88.
