Patrick Kane scores in OT to give Red Wings victory over Avalanche
Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin passed to Kane, who sent a fast shot from the top of the hash marks past Avalanche goalkeeper Justus Annunen for his tenth goal of the season.
Nathan MacKinnon scored for the Avalanche. Larkin scored Detroit’s other goal.
Annunen made 28 saves, while Detroit’s Alex Lyon stopped 30 shots.
Following a scoreless first period, MacKinnon gave Colorado the lead at 4:49 in the second. Mikko Rantanen feed MacKinnon as he approached the Detroit net, and the forward flicked a close-range shot over Lyon’s right shoulder for his 34th goal of the season. MacKinnon is second in the NHL scoring race, with 93 points.
The Red Wings have won three straight games and are 4-0-1 in their last five home games. Colorado’s two-game winning streak ended. The Avalanche have a 1-4-1 record in their previous six away games.
The Avalanche return home to face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.
