Mikel Arteta insists there is no secret to Arsenal’s current success as he lauded his team following their win over Newcastle.
Arsenal won 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday night, moving them two points behind the leaders in the Premier League.
A Sven Botman own goal put them on their way, and goals from Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Jakub Kiwior rounded off another strong performance from Arteta’s team, though the returning Joe Willock’s late header spoiled another clean sheet.
Arsenal may have suffered a close 1-0 setback in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 encounter against Porto on Wednesday, but their domestic form has been dominant.
When asked what has clicked in a run that featured 6-0 and 5-0 away victories over West Ham and Burnley, respectively, before beating Newcastle, Arteta said: “We’re in a terrific period. It’s no secret that players perform separately.
“Things are flowing. We’re scoring goals in various ways, and we want more. When we score one, we want two, three, or four. I really like the team’s mentality.
“We train every day in the greatest possible way and take care of ourselves. However, the first step is to believe. Believe in yourself, that you can and will continue to develop. Returning players is also a priority.
“The more players we bring back, the more competitiveness there will be on the team, and the more ways to influence the game. We must, above all, believe that we are capable.
Jorginho returned to Arsenal’s starting lineup for the game against Newcastle, where he was named man of the match.
The Italy midfielder has impressed in the majority of his appearances this season, but he only made the bench in Portugal.
