Sergio Perez’s contract expires at the conclusion of the season, and Red Bull chief Helmut Marko has been considering his future, as well as potential alternatives for the Mexican

Red Bull boss Helmut Marko appears to have ruled out two drivers vying to replace Sergio Perez.

Perez, 34, is approaching the fourth and final year of his contract with Red Bull and is anticipated to leave at the end of the season. The Mexican, who placed second in the Drivers’ Championships to Max Verstappen in 2023, is yet to be offered an extension.

He ended 290 points behind runaway world champion Verstappen and won only two races all season. Carlos Sainz is been widely touted to replace Perez in 2025, despite battling and finishing eighth with Ferrari.

However, Marko has stated that Red Bull executives will take their time making a final choice. “Sainz probably wants to make a decision sooner than we do,” he explained to Motorsport-Total.

Meanwhile, Alex Albon has been linked to a return. The 27-year-old drove alongside Verstappen for two years at Red Bull, but Marko dismissed the idea, citing his current circumstances at Williams. “Albon is not an issue for us; he has a contract until 2025,” the 80-year-old added.

According to Marko, Perez might receive a new contract if his performances remain constant throughout the season. “He still has a contract till 2024. “It is up to him,” Marko stated. “If he drives in a similar form to how he completed the last races, then we can easily talk about a further extension.”
