West Ham could renew their interest in Torino centre-back Perr Shuurs after Fabrizio Romano suggested that previously interested clubs could make deals this summer.
On February 28, Romano announced via his X account that, following his recuperation from an ACL injury, multiple clubs are still interested in signing him despite the long-term injury.
Schuurs, who was also a target for Liverpool and Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window, was allegedly valued at £34 million by Torino prior to his injury.
Given the Hammers’ defensive troubles this season, despite the acquisition of Konstantinos Mavropanos in the summer after any attempt to sign Schuurs was thwarted by his long-term injury, they may return with a new bid for the Dutchman.
Kurt Zouma has been unreliable, Nayef Aguerd has been linked with a departure, and Angelo Ogbonna is too old to play regular minutes, so signing a 24-year-old, highly regarded defender would make sense.
Schuurs is a confident ball-playing defender who is equally brilliant in possession as he is out of it, with his proficiency on the ball being a significant component of his playing style, which would be advantageous at the London Stadium.
Given the ongoing uncertainty surrounding David Moyes’ future, any new players may end up playing for a different manager, and Schuurs would match the spacious style of play that fans have demanded at the London Stadium.
