5 Potential Browns Running Backs Fits to Watch at Combine.
The scouting combine has a quality group of running backs, and the Cleveland Browns may be in the market this season. Here are five potential fits, plus another factor to consider when watching the athletes work out.
There may not be a running back taken in the first round, but this year’s scouting combine has a strong field. The Cleveland Browns are trying everything they can to keep Nick Chubb and bring him back for this season, but they may have an opportunity to not only strengthen the position but also build their running game for life after Chubb.
This year’s collection is interesting because it includes a variety of genres. There are both speed and power backs, some of whom excel at passing. Unquestionably, the Browns offence will be centred around Deshaun Watson, but one way they can aid him is to be consistently viable in the running game. That might provide matchup opportunities and improve both their play-action and the RPOs they want to use.
The Browns may not select a back in this year’s draft, but there will be plenty of opportunity to add a rookie to this club moving forward. That might happen at any point throughout the draft, including afterward. There will undoubtedly be more than five viable possibilities, but this is a fantastic place to begin.
Estime has likely the finest output profile among the draft class. He’s delivered at a high level against top-tier opponents. His touch balance and power make him a formidable workhorse at the next level.
One of the concerns about Estime is his fast pace. Estime made a lot of huge plays in college, but some believe his lack of top-end speed may restrict his potential at the next level. If he decides to run, the 40 will get a lot of attention. That could boost his performance, though it’s unclear whether it’s an essential component of his game.
Sorry if the OBR Daily Newswire arrived late this morning. I made the mistake of going to YouTube to watch recordings of some of my favourite comics on David Letterman (also one of my favourites), and when I looked up, a half-hour had passed—more on that in “The Lift” below.
While the Combine continues, interest among Browns supporters is low because the team will not have a pick until late in the second round, if our in-depth coverage numbers are any indication. Either that, or we suck for some reason, but I’m quite sure we suck just as much as we always have, which should be minimal. But, you never know. If we suddenly started sucking for some reason, please contact me and let me know.
Anyway, there isn’t much fascinating Combine-related information out there. So far, the NFL and teams have done a decent job of keeping the rumour mill under control, so we aren’t hearing much spicy chatter, other from what people make up. With that said, here are today’s LINKS OF MODERATE INTEREST:
Unlike baseball, football officials are open to using technology to improve officiating. The goal is to shift the attention away from human mistake and to accelerate decision-making. This works sometimes, but not always (due to immediate replay lags). One example of using technology to improve officiating is replacing the “chain gang” with laser measuring.
