27-year-old Wolves wanted to sign last year has just refused to play for his club.

A striker that Wolves were close to signing last summer has refused to play for his present team today.

Wolves suffered a 3-0 Premier League defeat against Newcastle United, as Gary O’Neil’s injury woes continued.

Jose Sa had a painful quad and Pedro Neto had a tight hamstring, and both were pulled off at halftime, however O’Neil confirmed after the game that he substituted them as a precaution.

In even worse news, the 40-year-old disclosed that Hwang Hee-Chan, who sustained an injury in the FA Cup triumph over Brighton, will be sidelined for six weeks.

Given Matheus Cunha’s absence, O’Neil is left with only 19-year-old Nathan Fraser as his natural striker, and he chose to start Neto against Newcastle.

It will have made them regret not being able to acquire a striker in January, but one they were extensively associated with last summer, Boulaye Dia, has simply refused to play for Salernitana.

The Serie A club was upset with the offer that was made on the table, and it appeared to be one that turned the Senegalese striker’s head, admitting that he had a difficult time after he learned of the Premier League clubs’ interest.

With the proposal characterised as ‘awful’ and Dia publicly expressing his displeasure, the 27-year-old was punished for his reaction to not receiving his move to Molineux.

It’s been a difficult trip for the powerful attacker, and there appears to be no turning back after he refused to come off the bench for the final seven minutes of Salernitana’s 1-1 draw with Udinese today, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Wolves should avoid Boulaye Dia.
Wolves’ striker situation is bad, but Dia is someone the club should avoid during the summer transfer window, despite the player’s earlier interest in joining.

Although his refusal to play has put him further into the shop window, the attitude he’s displayed throughout the transfer drama isn’t worth taking a chance on, regardless of his ability.

Instead of focusing on his game and patiently waiting for a move elsewhere, he has thrown his toys out the pram to expedite a move.

Dia’s talent has even been called into doubt after only scoring four goals in 17 games this season, which is simply insufficient.

O’Neil should focus his attention on other prospects and abandon the transfer drama.
