West Ham target £20million Championship midfielder.

The Hammers are still looking for a midfielder in this transfer window, having dropped out of the competition to sign Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho due to his £40 million asking price.

N’dong has only been at the Stadium of Light for a season, having joined from French side Lorient for a club record sum of approximately £13.6 million.

The 23-year-old has been in every minute of Sunderland’s season thus far, and the Hammers are said to be particularly interested in him.

Simon Grayson, the Black Cats manager, recognises the Gabon international’s talent and is not shocked that he is the club’s record acquisition.

“I knew a little bit about him but when you are working with players closely you see them in a different light,” Grayson said.

He possesses incredible athleticism and work rate, as well as good ball quality. That’s why he was valued at £13.6 million.

“He is still young and adapting to the British way of football, it is never easy when you are in a team that is finding it difficult in the Premier League but he looks like he is enjoying himself and is doing what I am asking him to do.” He went on to add.
