Said Benrahma shares admission about decision to quit West Ham United

Benrahma, 28, has now made four appearances for his new team in all competitions and scored one.

He has spoken out about his departure from the Hammers, telling Telefoot on X (3 March): “Lyon expressed a genuine interest in me. There was no hesitation about it. Afterward, I can feel the support of the city of Lyon.

Benrahma’s heart was definitely bent on returning to France, and West Ham would have struggled to prevent him from doing so. Furthermore, David Moyes will not want players in his squad who aren’t fully committed to the cause.

The Algeria international’s exit frees up space and cash in the Hammers’ roster, allowing them to potentially bring in replacements for his position in the future.

West Ham signed the winger from Brentford in 2021, and he has since shown to be a valuable asset in their future plans. He has made 120 appearances in all competitions for his parent club and has scored 23 goals, 12 of which came last season.

However, he failed to score in 20 appearances in the first half of the season, and his form dwindled, which is why he was given the go-ahead to leave when Lyon came calling.
