West Ham United: Edson Alvarez blown away by what Kalvin Phillips did v Everton.
West Ham United’s Edson Alvarez was impressed by Kalvin Phillips’ replacement performance against Everton and promptly sent the midfielder a new message.
David Moyes’ team picked up a critical three points as they won 3-1 at Goodison Park on Saturday (2 March), coming from behind due to second-half goals from Kurt Zouma, Tomas Soucek, and Edson Alvarez.
While Phillips did not score, he impressed his teammates and pundits from the bench after replacing James Ward-Prowse after the hour mark with a feisty midfield performance.
On Saturday (2 March), he posted on Instagram an image following Soucek’s late goal with the caption: “Until the end” and Edson Alvarez swiftly responded: “What a player” partnered with a fire emoji.
Will Kalvin Phillips join West Ham permanently this summer?
Phillips’ tenure at West Ham has been nothing short of disastrous, and the England international has been harshly criticised by commentators and fans alike for seeming slow in a claret and blue shirt this season.
However, Moyes has always said that the Manchester City loanee will need time to regain match fitness, and his performance at Goodison Park on Saturday suggested that he may be on the right track.
The 28-year-old fought hard out of possession and shined on the ball as the Hammers made an incredible late comeback. It wasn’t the best midfield performance, but it was a significant step in the right way for Phillips.
Hopefully, the Manchester City loanee can utilise Saturday’s cameo as a platform to build on for the rest of the season, and if he continues to go from strength to strength, West Ham may be interested in securing his services permanently
