Fulham prepared to disappoint Chelsea, £10m AFCON striker now wanted at Craven Cottage.
Fulham are now looking to sign Al-Shabab striker Habib Diallo as an option to Chelsea loanee Armando Broja.
Marco Silva was shaken last summer when star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic moved to Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal.
Raul Jimenez came in as an experienced striker to replace the void, but Silva needed another forward in January.
Armando Broja joined on loan from Chelsea, but has struggled to find first-team opportunities with Rodrigo Muniz in top form.
Broja will return to Chelsea at the end of the season, and Fulham are looking for alternative strikers, despite the fact that Muniz is in excellent form.
Reporter Ben Jacobs has informed Caught Offside that Fulham are interested in signing Al-Shabab striker Habib Diallo.
Diallo has been informed that he will not be part of Al-Shabab’s future plans, despite coming from Strasbourg for about €20 million (£17 million) last year.
Fulham have joined Burnley, Brentford, and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the race for Diallo, but all four value him around £10 million.
Diallo was spectacular in France, scoring 48 goals in 115 games for Metz and another 41 in 103 games for Strasbourg.
Diallo’s move to Saudi Arabia has proven ineffective, with only one goal in 21 games.
Diallo and Al-Shabab are poised to part ways this summer, and a transfer to the Premier League may be appealing to the 28-year-old.
A Senegal international with six goals in 26 games, Diallo, who featured at the Africa Cup of Nations, would be significantly cheaper than Broja, with Chelsea wanting roughly £35 million for the Albanian.
Fulham’s decision to move elsewhere appears to frustrate Chelsea as they seek to generate funds, although it’s difficult to justify spending that much money with Broja behind Muniz.
