TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — A new coach brings about significant changes, one of which is beneficial to both fans and the media. On Wednesday afternoon, Alabama football on-campus practice was open to the media for the first time since 2021.

It was the first opportunity to observe how Kalen DeBoer and his new staff operate things, as well as get a first look at the Crimson Tide’s new jerseys, faces, and more.

On a gorgeous March afternoon with temps in the mid 70s and partly sunny sky, Alabama exercised in helmets and shorts for the team’s second spring practice.

The watching period was limited to individual and positional drills, so here are some practice notes and observations from each position group.

Running backs- It appeared like Justice Haynes and Jam Miller would split reps as the number one back. During positional drills, the two alternated as leaders. Redshirt freshman Richard Young was the next in line, followed by true freshman Daniel Hill and walk-ons.

Offensive line- This is an intriguing position group because Alabama will replace both starting tackles from last season as well as the starting centre. Parker Brailsford, DeBoer’s starting centre from last season, was brought over from Washington via the transfer site. But it was redshirt junior James Brockermeyer who was doing the reps with the ones. The initial offensive line, from left to right, was Elijah Pritchett, Tyler Booker, Brockermeyer, Jaeden Roberts, and Wilkin Formby. From left to right, the second-team offensive line included Naquil Bertrand, Olaus Alinen, Brailsford, Roq Montgomery, and Miles McVay.
