Leicester City could suffer summer transfer blow amid financial fair play concerns.
Looking at their business from a distance, the Foxes appeared to have been astute during the last few windows.
They cashed in on some key players over the summer, notably james Maddison and Harvey Barnes, who, along with Timothy Castagne, generated a significant amount of selling revenue for the Midlands team.
Some of the income was spent on fresh signings, with quality players such as Conor Coady and Harry Winks joining the King Power Stadium.
However, they didn’t do much business in January.
Leicester City’s Potential Financial Fair Play Battle
Those who have not delved deeper into Leicester’s finances would have assumed that the club is now in a strong financial position in terms of adhering to financial standards.
However, the EFL anticipated that the club would violate their profitability and sustainability standards this season and attempted to compel Enzo Maresca’s team to submit a business plan.
The EFL’s efforts were ultimately fruitless, although it has been suggested that the team may face a points deduction next season.
The phrase ‘points deduction’ is not new in football, with Everton getting a 10-point punishment this season until it was lowered to six, and Nottingham Forest potentially losing points as well.
Leicester may also face a points deduction in the future, and administrators at the King Power Stadium appear to have accepted that “significant” cash must be gathered by the end of June in order to balance the books and avoid any sanctions.
Players Leicester City may sell during the early parts of the summer window.
There are several players that could be sold, but one stands out: Harry Souttar.
The Australia international has made only a few appearances in the 2023/24 season and is clearly not a crucial part of Maresca’s plans, so the Foxes could probably afford to sell him during the early parts of the summer transfer window.
Luke Thomas is another player with a significant length of time remaining on his contract who might be sold for a large sum.
Victor Kristiansen and Boubakary Soumare are two players who are out on loan and could be sold to raise a good quantity of money.
Danny Ward and Daniel Iversen appear to be surplus to needs when the summer window opens, so keep an eye on the goalkeeping situation.
