Kieran Trippier will miss Newcastle United’s next two matches against Chelsea and Manchester City, manager Eddie Howe has stated.
The 33-year-old was forced off in the second half of Newcastle United’s 3-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday due to a calf injury.
simply over 24 hours later, Trippier spoke at the North East Football Writers’ Awards Dinner, where he was named Player of the Year, and stated: “I simply felt something in my calf and I don’t want to take any risks or anything.
“I had a great conversation with the management, but I won’t know anything until [Monday]. My calf is feeling well, but scan findings might be misleading, so I’m feeling optimistic.
Those scan results have arrived, and Howe has ruled Trippier out of Monday’s Premier League match against Chelsea, as well as Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City.
Howe also revealed that the right-back will not be available for England’s upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.
“Kieran is not too bad, it’s a minor injury but the scan showed enough to probably keep him out of the next two matches,” Howe said in a press conference. “We hope he’ll be back after the international break but that’s not guaranteed.”
Meanwhile, £32 million summer signing Tino Livramento will play right-back after spending the majority of his Newcastle career at left-back. The 21-year-old scored his first United goal after replacing Trippier last weekend.
