REPORT – Detroit Lions Eyeing Cleveland Browns Standout Defender as Potential Trade Target – 2024 Offseason.

The Detroit Lions are doing everything possible to return to the NFC Championship game before 2023, a feat they last accomplished in 1991. Along with re-signing key players like as kicker Michael Badgley and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, the Lions are actively looking at potential trade opportunities. Notably, there are solid signs, as relayed by The Lions Wire managing editor Jeff Rison, that Detroit is considering a substantial trade for Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II.Detroit Lions Week 11 scouting report: The Cleveland Browns are talented, but inconsistent - Pride Of Detroit

The Lions have also added tight end Shane Zylstra and kicker Michael Badgley this offseason. Badgley, who made all six field goals for the club in 2023, will try to keep his position as placekicker.

Moseley, who signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Lions last season, is now rehabilitating from a season-ending ACL tear in his right knee, which occurred on his second snap in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers. This was his second ACL tear, the first being during Week 5 of the 2022 season with the San Francisco 49ers.

Moseley, an undrafted signing by the 49ers in 2018, spent his first five seasons with the NFC West club. The Tennessee native played only one game in his first season before sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury. Moseley developed into a major contributor for San Francisco in 2019, with 50 tackles, eight passes defended, and one interception in 16 games. He intercepted Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the postseason. Moseley proceeded to shine over the next three seasons, totaling three interceptions, a score, a fumble recovery, 25 passes defended, and 85 tackles.

In 2020, the Detroit Lions allowed the most points in the NFL (32.4 per game). They allowed 27.5 points per game in 2021 and 25.1 points per game in 2022, before giving up 23.2 points in 2023. Last season, the Lions’ defence generated their best numbers under head coach Dan Campbell, thanks primarily to a superb front seven. Opposing rushers averaged only 3.7 yards per run attempt, the third-lowest figure in the NFL.

However, the secondary underperformed, giving up 4,205 passing yards and 28 touchdowns. The eventual return of cornerback Emmanuel Moseley should help strengthen the secondary.
