Newcastle now eyeing move to sign “brilliant” competition for Nick Pope.
This season, Newcastle United learned the hard way about the qualityed to compete on all fronts. The Magpies’ summer recruitment failed to pay off, and they’re about to try again in the hopes of making up for lost time, with one guy already on the shortlist.
Before anything else, PIF will need to find a successor for sporting director Dan Ashworth, who has been placed on gardening leave amid reports of a move to Manchester United.
Darren Eales, Newcastle United CEO, confirmed the news, telling the club’s official website: “We are naturally disappointed that Dan has chosen to leave, but our exciting journey continues, and the process of recruiting a new sporting director will begin immediately.” We appreciate Dan’s work at Newcastle United and wish him and his family well in the future.
Whoever takes over the post next will be entrusted with returning St James’ Park to the heights of last season, when they finished in the Premier League’s top four and qualified for the Champions League. at accomplish this, the Magpies should look at individuals who have played at the highest level, including one summer target.
According to Dean Jones, Newcastle are interested in signing Aaron Ramsdale, who has fallen out of favour at Arsenal this season and has to move somewhere if he is to play more minutes.
“I believe simple logic dictates that Ramsdale cannot continue to sit on the bench and watch Arsenal week after week. He practically has a season ticket at the moment.
“That’s not really where he needs to be at this moment in his career. He’s been very professional this season and credit to him for remaining patient when others would not have. I think we’ll see rumours around that build in May and as we head into the Euros. I know Newcastle and Chelsea both have a level of interest. I’d be very surprised if Ramsdale didn’t end up leaving Arsenal in the summer.”
