According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United have already initiated negotiations to sign Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly, who has been extensively linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Kelly’s current deal at the Vitality Stadium expires in the summer, so there has been plenty of conjecture about the centre-back’s future in recent months.

TEAMtalk reported a few weeks ago that the 25-year-old informed the Bournemouth administration that he would not sign a new contract unless it included a release clause.

According to the article, Spurs, Newcastle, and West Ham have all expressed interest in signing the 25-year-old this summer.

According to the outlet, Kelly has been a long-term target for Ange Postecoglou’s team, and they could still pursue a deal for the Englishman despite signing Radu Dragusin during the past transfer window.

Newcastle are reportedly in ‘continuing’ talks with Kelly’s camp ahead of the summer transfer window.

The publication explains that, considering the club’s FFP issues, Eddie Howe’s men see the Cherries player as a’smart acquisition’ to reinforce their backline.

Newcastle would have a significant advantage over Spurs in the fight for Kelly because the 25-year-old would understand that he has a much higher chance of earning regular game time at St James’ Park than he does at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
