Gary O’Neil says ‘unbelievable’ Fulham win his favourite due to Wolves adversity.

Gary O’Neil picked Wolves’ 2-1 win over Fulham as his favourite of the season, citing the challenges his team overcome.
Wolves had already lost numerous vital players, but injuries to Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and key man Pedro Neto prompted them to make two first-half substitutions.

However, Wolves took the lead in the second half thanks to goals from full-backs Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nelson Semedo, before Alex Iwobi scored with essentially the final kick of the game.

“Unbelievable win,” exclaimed a pleased O’Neil, whose team has risen to ninth place in the Premier League table.

“My favourite, in terms of what we’ve had to cope with, is the position we were in before the game, and the position we found ourselves in 20-odd minutes later.

“To find a method to overcome a Fulham club that is in a really good period – when I got their squad sheet, I realised how great their depth is, and what an excellent bench they have available to them.

“Obviously, we are at a different moment. We can be that strong, but we aren’t right now. Then, mentally, losing the few attacking players we had left and still finding a way to reply seemed like an extraordinary win.

“I am sure they are, but the fans should be extremely pleased of the team they just saw. If I’d grown up as a Wolves supporter and you’d asked me what I wanted my team to look like, that would have been it.”

The significant negative was the two injuries, with Bellegarde incurring a left knee injury in the opening minutes of the game and Neto subsequently pulling up just before half-time with his left

The Portuguese winger, who had missed two months of the season with a right hamstring injury, was substituted at halftime against Newcastle last week due to hamstring stiffness, causing O’Neil to question his team selection.

“He had a really good week,” remarked the Wolves’ manager. “He got a scan that was absolutely clear, with no muscle injury, and he felt great in training yesterday and again today.
