Eddie Howe, Newcastle United’s head coach, has spoken on Andy Howe’s five deals since joining at St James Park in 2021.

As reported on Chronicle Live last weekend, Howe has taken on a new role at Newcastle and will now report directly to head of recruitment Steve Nickson. Following Dan Ashworth’s resignation, United’s backroom is under scrutiny as fans wait to discover who will succeed the former Brighton & Hove Albion recruitment guru.

The nephew of Howe worked in the scouting section, but the Toon manager has emphasised his role in some major transfer moves. When questioned about his successes since joining Newcastle from AFC Bournemouth, the manager mentioned six agreements.

Howe senior stated, “His (Andy Howe’s) role has always been very prominent in recruitment.” He has played a significant role in the recruitment of several major players.

When I consider his part in recruiting Bruno, Tino Livramento, Sandro Tonali, Harrison Ashby, and Anthony Gordon, he had a significant role in the football club’s crucial additions. He’s done an outstanding job and as I say, the title change is just recognition for what he has done.

Despite Ashworth’s departure, Newcastle have moved on to the next phase of recruitment, with Howe and Nickson meeting to discuss targets for the summer window. A busy summer is expected on Tyneside, with up to four new signings needed for Howe as he aims to have a more consistent season in the Premier League.
