According to talkSPORT, Newcastle United are considering signing Ipswich Town left-back Leif Davis during the summer transfer season in order to strengthen their team. The club sees him as a great fit for the team and a useful acquisition.

It may be a terrific signing because the player will cost less than £10 million. However, the Magpies will face competition from English club West Ham United, who have also expressed interest in acquiring the player.

Leif Davis progressed through the Leeds United youth and made it to the main team. Following a few years, he was loaned to AFC Bournemouth in 2021. Following that season, Ipswich Town managed to sign the defender for only £1.2 million.

The English defender has appeared in 33 games this season, scoring zero goals and assisting ten. He averages 1.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, and one clearance per game. On offence, he has an average of 2.9 critical passes and a passing success percentage of over 80% (data from whoscored).

Davis is primarily a left-back, but he can also play center-back. He is referred to as a’modern-day attacking back’ because of his ability to make effective crosses and assists. He possesses all of the necessary equipment for a left-back.

Newcastle United hope to bolster their defensive line by signing Leif Davis in the summer. Given the cheap purchase cost, this will not be a terrible deal at all. The player was born and nurtured in the Northeast, which would only work in their benefit.

Davis would be open to moving to the Premier League to advance his career. However, it will also depend on if Ipswich Town is promoted or not. They are ranked second in the Championship points table, with 75 points.
