Cleveland, Ohio — The Browns discovered their No. 2 edge rusher right in their backyard.
They didn’t have to hunt for another counterpart to Myles Garrett because they re-signed Za’Darius Smith, who had 5.5 sacks for them last season, second only to Garrett’s 14.0.
Other edge rushers, including the Texans’ Leonard Floyd, had already left the market before the deal.
However, the Browns expected to bring Smith back unless he found a better opportunity on the open market.
They agreed on a two-year contract worth $23.5 million, which is comparable to the $11.6 million he earned with the Browns in his first season here.
