The Pittsburgh Steelers have made numerous roster moves in preparation for the 2024 free agency period, which begins with the legal tampering period on Monday, March 11 at 12 p.m. ET before the league year officially begins on Wednesday, March 13. That means the Steelers can start talking to pending free agents and negotiating contracts with prospective players as early as Monday.

Since the end of the 2023 season, the Steelers have made a number of roster cuts to be within the pay cap for the new league year. The most recent transactions involved the release of cornerback Patrick Peterson, wide receiver Allen Robinson, and safety Keanu Neal. In February, the team released offensive tackle Chukwuma Okorafor, centre Mason Cole, punter Pressley Harvin, and quarterback Mitch Trubisky. At the start of the permissible tampering period, the Steelers had little more than $28.4 million in available cap space, placing them in the middle of the league. However, they will have plenty of flexibility in the coming seasons, since a number of contracts will expire at the end of this season, including DT Cam Heyward, whose $22,406,250 cap hit this season ranks second on the team, trailing only OLB T.J. Watt.
