Fulham are set to pay Chelsea £4m under loan deal terms for Armando Broja that will be triggered unless the striker starts every remaining game this season.
Fulham are ready to make a £4 million payment to Chelsea for striker Armando Broja under the conditions of his January loan.
The Cottagers agreed a deadline day loan deal for Broja to go across west London after being quoted £50 million to buy him permanently.
After refusing to pay a direct £5 million loan fee, Fulham and Chelsea eventually agreed on a deal structure based on the amount of games he played.
According to Mail Sport, the arrangement stipulated that Fulham would pay nothing if Broja played 60 percent or more of the matches, which were 16 at the time he signed.
If the Cottagers do not accomplish that target, they will have to pay a £4 million charge to their local rivals.
Chelsea had hoped Broja would have a huge impact at Fulham, increasing his worth ahead of attempts to sell him permanently this summer. If things did not come out as planned, they would be reimbursed.
Indeed, the acquisition has been a failure on the pitch, as Broja has yet to start a single game since his arrival and has not scored.
Fulham are sympathetic to Chelsea’s growing concerns about Broja’s value, but head coach Marco Silva has been quite happy with Rodrigo Muniz’s progress since the Blues striker arrived.
Broja was hired to replace Fulham’s first-choice striker Raul Jimenez, who has been out for six weeks due to injury, but Muniz has stepped up, scoring five goals in his past six games.
Broja missed the first game following his departure due to illness, and Muniz has been outstanding ever since.
Indeed, Fulham insiders have stated that Muniz’s worth has improved by an estimated £20 million as a result of his remarkable scoring record.
