The West Coast Eagles’ first squad announcement is in for the 2024 campaign.

Oscar Allen and Liam Duggan, co-captains of the West Coast Eagles, have overcome illness and injury concerns and will face Port Adelaide on Sunday in their season opener.

Allen suffered a gastro issue on Tuesday and was sent home from the club’s season opener as a precaution, but Duggan dismissed any concerns raised when he missed Monday’s light practice due to an ankle ailment.

They will run out together and play important roles as the Eagles prepare to face one of the clubs commonly regarded as a premiership contender.

Allen will take up position deep in attack, while Duggan will most likely alternate with highly touted teenager Harley Reid, who will make his debut.

Reid has been nominated to the midfield with Club Champions Elliot Yeo, who won the title in 2017 and 2018, and Tim Kelly, who won it last year.

Tyler Brockman, a former Hawthorn small forward, has also been picked for his first match in blue and gold. He joined the club during the trade season last October and has impressed since then with his clean hands and neat talents.

Tyrell Dewar, a Next Generation Academy player who has made significant development in preseason and has been nominated to an extended interchange bench, might also make his debut.

Midfielders Reuben Ginbey, Campbell Chesser, and Luke Edwards, tall utility player Callum Jamieson, attacker Ryan Maric, and rebounding defender Jamaine Jones were all named on the bench.

The club will pare down that list before travelling to Adelaide for a much-anticipated battle.
