The Minnesota Vikings made a key move this week, one many see as a foreshadowing to a far larger deal to come.
On Friday, the Vikings gained a second first-round pick, establishing themselves as a strong contender to move up in the NFL Draft. They may already have a preferred landing location in mind. According to ESPN’s Matt Miller, the hottest rumour in the NFL is that the Vikings are seeking to package their draft picks to move up to No. 4, where the Arizona Cardinals may be prepared to trade down.
With many quarterbacks seen as potential high-end picks, the Cardinals are in a fortunate position. Even if three quarterbacks are selected in the first three rounds, someone will be available at No. 4, and a quarterback-needy team may be ready to make a significant trade for the selection. For the time being, the Vikings may be the best club in position to accomplish this.
The Vikings had their own pick at No. 11 and acquired the No. 23 overall pick this week. With Kirk Cousins’ departure, they need a quarterback. If the Cardinals decide to trade down, they might benefit greatly from that necessity.
