Nottingham Forest points deduction and what it means for Leicester City amid FFP worries
The newest Leicester City news comes as Nottingham Forest apparently learns of their punishment for a breach of Premier League financial rules for the 2022/23 season.
Nottingham Forest are apparently set to get a four-point deduction for violating the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs), with Leicester City keeping an eye on the situation.
Forest were charged with a violation of the rules in January, with an announcement on any potential punishment due on Monday, March 18. Ahead of that, the Guardian reports that the team has been deducted four points, causing them to tumble into the relegation zone, one point behind Luton Town.
Given indications that they are on the verge of potential financial rule violations, the City will be closely monitoring the situation. There have been reports that City will be charged by the Premier League with the accounts for the 2022/23 season, which will be issued at the end of the month.
If City is charged with a breach, they may suffer a points deduction at the start of the next season if they win promotion back to the Premier League. The club’s relegation to the Championship complicated proceedings, with reports indicating that it caused a delay in any potential penalties.
The club will monitor the issue with Forest to determine any potential punishment. The Reds’ four-point deduction is open to appeal; Everton was originally given a 10-point penalty for a breach the previous season, but that was reduced to six on appeal.
Although each circumstance is unique, the most recent update will provide City a better sense of the punishment they could face if they are found to be in violation of the regulations. Fans are still waiting to learn if the claims are confirmed.
