Boston’s starting rotation lacks depth as Opening Day approaches.

Could the Boston Red Sox make another signing before Opening Day?

Former All-Star Lucas Giolito was Boston’s biggest addition to the starting rotation this offseason, but he will be sidelined for the 2024 season due to injury.

The Red Sox’s rotation is thin and might benefit from at least one additional addition before the 2024 season begins.

It appears like Boston does not want to make a significant commitment in someone like Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery, but there are other players available that may be added without breaking the bank.

Michael Lorenzen, a 2023 All-Star, is one of the most intriguing players still in free agency. The journeyman righty was impressive in 2023 for the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies, but he is still available.

It’s unknown where he’ll end up, but he threw a bullpen for clubs on Sunday, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

“Free-agent (right-handed pitcher) Michael Lorenzen threw 70 pitches yesterday, getting up and down four times, hitting 94 to 96 mph with his fastball, according to a report viewed by The Athletic,” according to Rosenthal.

Lorenzen posted a 4.18 ERA in 29 appearances last season, although he was most effective with the Tigers before being transferred. He posted a 3.58 ERA in his first 18 starts, and if he can maintain that level in 2024, he might be a viable option for Boston.

The Red Sox offense and bullpen appear to be in terrific shape, but the rotation requires a boost. Why not sign the experienced right-hander?
